Voice Power: Using Your Voice to Captivate, Persuade, and Command Attention
Published in Paperback by AMACOM (March, 2002)
Author: Renee Grant-Williams
Average review score:

Hear This!!
The book was OK, but somehow I was expecting more. I did learn some things to improve my speech, but thought the book would have been nicer with a few more exercises and a little less levity. Easy read -- 1 to 2 nights.

Gut knowledge
You can know "about" something your
entire life, but until you learn it "in
the gut", so to speak, you don't really
know it. It's a light, fast
read, but the message is profound and
will last a lifetime because you will
learn it with your "gut". I still think about and use what I read in this book every day.

Finally a chance to strengthen my voice
I was amazed at how much deeper and stronger my voice sounded, after trying this approach for only a few minutes! I have always had a soft voice, and often had trouble projecting over the background noise in the architecture studios I teach. In spite of wishing for a more effective speaking voice, I don't have time to spend on laborious exercises. The approach presented in this book is easy to understand, and can be done in spare moments, in the shower, etc. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants their voice to sound more professional and confident.

Grants and Awards Available to American Writers (20th Edition)
Published in Paperback by PEN American Center (July, 1998)
Author: John Morrone
Average review score:

Very thorough...
What can I say about this book that hasn't already been said? It's an invaluable resource for both published and non-published writers alike. The only complaint I have is that I would have liked to have seen a CN designation for "Creative Non-Fiction."

A truly great resource
I bought this book a few weeks ago from the Pen American Center. I've found over 100 sources of funding that I qualify for right now and about 50 more that I qualify for later. I am really loving this book. It is designed in such a way that it's easy to scan all listings for ones that apply to you and easy to search for specific ones as well. In the back everything is indexed several ways, making things even easier to find.

The information they provide you with is comprehensive and extensive. Kudos to the editor and researcher!

If you're a writer, be it fiction, plays, journalistic, non-fiction, whatever, this book is a great resource for you.

A true necessity for writers!
This book is invaluable. It provides contact information for countless sources of funding, it's easy to use, and the range of grants and awards is astounding. Writers of every discipline, and from every step of their career, I think, will find something suited to their needs.

Insider's View of Mormon Origins
Published in Paperback by Signature Books (October, 2002)
Author: Grant H. Palmer
Average review score:

Interesting but flawed
Palmer's book does have some merit. It does collect much of what has been written recently criticizing the traditional view of LDS history. The chapter on parallels between the Book of Mormon and 19th-century evangelicals protestantism was particularly interesting.

This book does have significant problems, however. Palmer makes sweeping assertions that nothing "substantial" has been produced that supports Book of Mormon historicity. He ignores literally thousands of pages of material in this statement. I will grant that much of LDS apologia is bunk, but to ignore it all is inexcusable.

Also many of the parallels Palmer cites stretch credulity in my view, especially the chapter about Moroni and the golden pot story. To show that someone familiar with a story written in a foreign language may have known Joseph Smith well is one thing, but to conclude then that Joseph would have intimate knowledge of that story and use it to create the story of Moroni is quite another. In any event I did not find the stories similar enough to call them parallels.

Honesty at last
Bravo to Mr. Palmer. It is so rare to find an LDS author not afraid of the truth. I HIGHLY recommend this book to any LDS folks who refuse to believe what those of us in the know have been trying to say for decades: The truth has been altered to the sugar coated version you have today. Mr. Palmer has the courage to write the truth no matter how disturbing it might be to the typical Mormon.

An original study of the roots of the Mormon faith
An Insider's View of Mormon Origins by Grant H. Palmer (three-time director of LDS Institutes of Religion in California and Utah, former instructor at the Church College of New Zealand, an LDS seminary teacher at two Utah-based locations, and Mormon High Priest Group Instructor), is an informed, informative, and original study of the roots of the Mormon faith. Emphasizing that the core importance is how the first and founding members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints interpreted the great spiritual and metaphysical events of Mormon origins, and incorporating the transcribers nineteenth-century world-view to gain a more accurate picture of what they were truly saying, An Insider's View of Mormon Origins is a thought-provoking, scholarly, well-written, and very highly recommended study of what today is one of the most rapidly growing of the Christian communities.

SAP: An Executive's Comprehensive Guide
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (01 June, 1998)
Authors: Grant Norris, Ian Wright, James R. Hurley, John R. Dunleavy, Alison Gibson, and John Dunleavy
Average review score:

excellent overview of what to expect and how to prepare
The authors provide an excellent overview of what to expect when embarking upon the implementation of an enterprise resource planning system like SAP. They provide thoughtful insight on factors that should influence the decision to proceed with such a project as well as sufficient detail on the particulars of SAP.

Well worth reading - A great overview of SAP
An excellent introduction to SAP by people who live and breath it.

This book has excellent sections on Business Case, Functionality (showing the links between modules, not just functions)and Deployment Options. It really helped me understand what I was going into implementing SAP for my company.

The Book has only two dissappointing sections. The chapter on process reengineering could have been better structured and applied, Hammer has better material. The walk through of methodology in chapters 17 and 18 was dry, uninspiring and again unapplied. More could have been written on ASAP.

A very factual description of the best ERP worldwide
This book is designed for managers and deciders who are in an evaluation phase and compare different ERP solutions. R/3 is a world-class integrated ERP solution and the less risky possible choice. If there is any doubt left, this book will convince the reader. SAP is not just a piece of software, it's also a culture and a club. Belonging to it is a real asset in someone's career.

The Signature of God
Published in Audio Cassette by Frontier Research Publications (September, 1997)
Author: Grant R. Jeffery
Average review score:

This book proves that the Bible is the absolute truth
Jeffrey scores highly with this book which presents evidence about the Bible that proves without a DOUBT it is true. I believe that with all the evidence that Jeffrey includes in this book makes it impossible for anyone to deny that the Bible is true and that Jesus Christ is our Savior who came and took away our sins by dieing on the cross. Everyone should read this book!

Facts not needed, but certainly useful
This is a good read. Grant R Jeffrey offers believers and non believers alike a lot of information and undisputable facts to chew on, not least of which are the chapters on the mathmatically proven bible codes. These codes, found embedded in only the bible, and no other historical writings, reveal not only divine inteligence, but also direct divine influence over every letter written in the bible. Nothing was left to interpretation by the human authors and scribes. All was, in a manner of speaking, dictated by God Himself, with information to be revealed in a later age such as this. The historical and archeological evidence is overwhelming, and the medical data is fascinating. This book is an enlightening read for the skeptic, and a faith affirming read for the believer. Solid apoligetics and vast amounts of information give the reader a banquet for the mind and soul.

Outstanding Compilation of Facts- You can't Argue with Truth
This is an outstanding work. It is an excellent book to reach an atheist acquaintance, or to send a Christian friend for inspiration. It is an extremely powerful reference that cites up-to-date, factual, archaeological, and scientific validations on numerous historical/Biblical truths previously ejected by secular society. It is a great common sense source of archaeological findings that verify what the Bibles has always recorded as truth. The information contained in this work is a must for the bible scholar, proselytizer, and an essential tool to rescue the beguiled dogmatic. Buy a copy for yourself, buy a copy to send to those you love, and give a copy to those who most need it.

"My people are perishing because of their lack of knowledge." (Hosea 4:6)

The Art of Cooking for the Diabetic
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (January, 1996)
Authors: Mary Abbott Hess, Jane Grant Tougas, Marion J. Franz, and Kathleen L. Wishner
Average review score:

There are better books on this subject.
I tried recipes from this book and they are awefull. Funky combinations that do not work. Some of the recipes are very basic and may appeal to people who do not like exotic or fancy food. For better recipes and recipes that offer more variety, flavor and flair, I like the American Diabetes Association Diabets Cookbook and Joslin's Diabetic Gourmet Cookbook.

Used it for years
I bought the first edition of this book in the early eighties to use the recipe exchanges along with "Eat and Stay Slim" by Better Homes and Gardens. I still use it to this day and whenever I serve meatloaf or chicken a la king from it I get compliments and folks want the recipes! Many of the recipes are easy to make and the kids love them.

A MUST FOR ANYONE COOKING FOR A DIABETIC
This book provides such a wealth of information to anyone who is new to the world of a diabetic. It answered so many questions that I had and didn't know where to go for the answers.

With all the new products on the market, this updated version takes the pain out of grocery shopping in the supermarket skills section.

I bought three copies....One for my mom, one for a friend and one for myself and we all agree...Bon Appetit!

Auras: An Essay on the Meaning of Colors
Published in Audio Cassette by A.R.E. Press (July, 1989)
Authors: Edgar Cayce and Robert J. Grant
Average review score:

not much information
This is a very thin tiny book and doesn't contain much information. This book is for people who just want to know something about auras. Though Edgar Cayce can see auras, he's not really good in interpreting them. He has limited knowledge in this area.

Really all you need to know about auras
Perhaps why Edgar Cayce took so long to write a book on auras is that reading and interpreting auras is something very intuitive rather than something systematic that can be easily learned. Although I can sense an energy about people, I have never been able to see colours there. Once I was at a dinner party and I couldn't fathom why something seemed very different about one of the other guests. He died a couple of months later. It was only after reading this book that I understood that I had picked up on his lack of aura. Edgar Cayce encourages us to look at all the other little clues surrounding people, including the colours they choose to wear, in order to get an impression of the colour of their aura and offers some interpretation of various colours. While some people may feel this book lacks substance and depth, the real message is that we each need to develop our own ability to read and interpret auras through our own intuitive faculties.

An authentic revelation
Mr. Cayce revealed to his friend, during a beautiful evening sunset over the west coast of Florida, that he could see auras. Nature itself was manifesting yet another glorius splendor of color through the atmospheric convulsions of earth's rotation. Since I began using this guide as a sole-basis for interpreting the aura's that I myself have seen for over eight years, my interpretations have hit in the 95% to 98% correct range. I anguish at the loss mankind suffered when Mr. cacye died later that year. For to have a compendium of more exact interpretations would be invaluable to both the seer of the aura, and to those whose physical and/or emotional well-being would have benefited from such a record. This small tome suffices as an ispiration for those of us left to continue his teachings!
For those who can see auras, a MUST!

Black Oak: Winter Knight
Published in Paperback by Roc (October, 1999)
Author: Charles L. Grant
Average review score:

The ghosts come out to play while the plot thickens.
An apparent clue in the controversial missing girl case that Ethan Proctor's Black Oak took on leads to England and a unique haunting. What Proctor began to suspect in 'Episode' 2: The Hush of Dark Wings is confirmed here. Dark forces of some kind have marked him, but for what? The story arc plot grows thicker, the red herrings swarm, and the whole things builds to a nifty sword fight between man and ghost. Black Oak 'Episode' 3: Winter Knight is yet another delightfully creepy tale that will leave you begging for the next series entry.

Fun, quick read
Let's face it: this Black Oak series is just plain fun! GENESIS and THE HUSH OF DARK WINGS start out the series. Grant introduces us to Ethan Proctor, the brooding but brilliant leader of Black Oak Security. If there is a creepy twist, Proctor and company are sure to find it!

WINTER KNIGHT finds Proctor in the quaint town of Pludbury, Englad. The townsfolk readily accept the legend of one of the town's forefathers who will grant them their deepest desires in exchange for their souls. Proctor, of course, digs and digs to discover the mystery of the resident ghost.

This series is imaginative with Grant's patented writing. If you are new to Grant, these are an excellent way to get an idea of the depth of his writing. Besides, each is so much fun to read that you certainly won't regret the investment!

Charles Grant = Underrated
Charles Grant is the most underrated writer in the horror fantasy/sci-fi genre. His body of work is ubiquitous, ranging from hard core horror to subtle dark fantasy. Winter Knight was a pleasure to read, and the Black Oak series is the most productive series going. "Hunting Ground," the forthcoming installment in the series, should prove to be another fine read.

I Am Secretly an Important Man

one of the most gut wrentching and soul searching books
bernstein makes you see the brutality and evil in the world. each story is a facet in the gem of this book. a real must read.

The Poet Jacks Off The Throat to Bring This in Cupped Hands
"If you dare condemn my life, it will come after you with a sharpened rake!" said Steven Jesse Bernstein, the legendary dark sun shining in the steel-grey of a Seattle sky. (...) had come into his own a s a poet...all he had to do was wield a pen and scrawl what was already there, gushing out so fast he had to catch it all in his hands or it would be lost forever...(...) ...Read the works of a man from the very streets you come from, (...) ...You need take this Writer's works with you as a close and trusted companion, both Poetry and Prose, it's more than Lost than anything the Lost generation made out with like bandits; more Beat than anything the Beats as its got a modernized Rhythmic Bass back-beat to it, all the more akin to old Blues than Jazz, and the only generation is the Generation X=conmmunicated, where the only "alternative" is drugs or death, otherwise the compromise of a scared hypocrite wanting to repeat the secure sins of those who are of an entirely different breed of poets altogether...no, Bernstein knew what he was; and even more than that he focused on what he had become (...)

Brilliant. I can't say enough.
Bernstein's work screams TRUTH

The Signature of God, the Handwriting of God
Published in Hardcover by Inspirational Pr (September, 1999)
Author: Grant R. Jeffrey
Average review score:

False advertising
We keep hearing about the emergence of scientific evidence that supports the claims made in the bible. The description on the back of Jeffrey's book claims he has found it.

Not so. Jeffrey repeatedly relates the bible to scientific knowledge, yet he never supports the bible with science. (Don't feel bad, though, Jeffrey, because you are attempting the impossible.)

Too often he says things are just too complex or wonderful to occur without God's involvement (evolution is one example). Yet that's all the evidence he offers. Is this, as the blurb claims, his "convincing evidence that the scriptures can be trusted"?

Furthermore, if all of nature's wonders must be created by a greater force, why must it be God? Why not Allah? Or Zeus? Or Santa Claus?

This book is weak. I was hoping it would challenge my thinking, instead all I found was rubbish. I was once a Christian. But as I began to use my intellect, and truly studied Christianity and cultures, I realized it was all folklore. There is no evidence that the Bible's teaching are true, and there is no evidence that Jesus ever existed. Keep looking, Jeffrey.

If Jeffrey's goal was to support Atheism, he has succeeded.

Seeking to know the truth
The proof is in the reading of this masterpiece on apolgetics.
Grant Jeffrey has done a marvelous job in his research. He brings out the pure facts of Biblical history and shows how science has
to constantly (or at least should ) apologize for their errant ways. Jeffrey proves through Bible prophecy that Jesus is truly the Messiah. Remember the prophecies occurred hundreds of years prior to the birth of Jesus. He gives the statistics on the probabilty of a number of these prophecies happening to any one man. Where prophecy has said that a city would be destroyed and never again be rebuilt it has become factual. Science cannot disprove through any scientific way that Jeffry is wrong. They, scientists, or I should say atheists, make blanket statements without any way to prove their point, and eventually something is discovered to verify that what is in the Bible is true. Jeffrey goes on to tell us that many scientists are coming around to believe in creation and God, while many others, including prominent scientists like Hawkings (spelling is mine) are saying that the universe and all that is in it seems to move closer and closer to the idea of an intelligent design(read God). This book will not reach everyone with the same impact it had on me but as the saying goes "There are none so blind as those who will not see".
The clincher has got to be the Bible codes. I am giving this book to a number of people as a Christmas present. I refuse to lend my copy out as I am now reading it for the third or maybe it's the fourth time. I highly recommend you get your own copy and read it with an open and critical mind.

Life Changing
Once I had the sense to go in search of the truth about God, I found this book. It changed my life. Not many books can say that! I will never again doubt the existence of God or that Jesus is the true son of God and is divine. I recommend this book to all you science lovers who are under the misconception that science and God don't mix. Or the ones who were like me who think they "are too smart to believe in God".
